Do you want to know more about Deaf Children’s Literacy Benefit Gala?

Here are ten frequently asked questions (FAQ) answered for you!

Question 1: Why Georgia Association of the Deaf is hosting this Gala?

Answer: The gala is the first of the kind in the United States focusing Deaf children’s literacy skills through American Sign Language. It is the major fundraising event, and lots of people do support literacy causes.

Question 2: Who is NeNe Leakes?

Answer: NeNe Leaks is a very popular celebrity in Atlanta, Georgia. She knows Marlee Matlin and she worked with her on the reality show called “Celebrity Apprentice” and she is also one of the reality stars of “Real Housewives of Atlanta”. NeNe has a very strong fan base in Atlanta, and it is a good way to educate her fans about Deaf children and American Sign Language.

Question 3: Who is Howard Rosenblum?

Answer: Howard Rosenblum is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Association of the Deaf. He is a well-known Deaf attorney, and he fought very hard for justice, equality and fairness among the Deaf people. He is very inspirational speaker, and it is an honor to have Howard to come to the Gala!

Question 4: Who are Evon Black and Vryon Kinson?

Answer: Evon Black is nationally acclaimed Black Deaf performer and a motivational speaker and she will bring positive energy on the stage, and it is a good opportunity for the audience to be exposed to the diversity of talented Deaf people. Vryon Kinson, also known as DJLeKim, will bring an intense and positive musical energy to the Gala!

Question 5: Why is the Gala at J.W. Marriott Buckhead?

Answer: This is a very special fundraising gala, and it deserves much class and attention for the supporters to get the best food, service and entertainment! We want to make sure that the supporters understand the important cause about Deaf Children’s Literacy through American Sign Language. It is time to elevate American Sign Language to the highest esteem where people can respect this cherished language among Deaf people.

Question 6: Why is this ticket costs $125.00 dollars?

Answer: This price of the ticket is used for the three-course meal, entertainment, music, auction, and meet NeNe Leakes and Howard Rosenblum for their presentations. That money will go to the literacy programs.

Question 7: Where the money will go?

Answer: Georgia Association of the Deaf will use funds to invest on Deaf Children all over the state of Georgia, and we will provide opportunities for children to develop leadership skills, promote American Sign Language, and support their literacy skills through Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, Georgia School for the Deaf and programs that serve the Deaf children.

Question 8: Why should I go?

Answer: If you are passionate about the Deaf Children and/or ASL, you should go to support the cause. There are many efforts to drive ASL out and take away the rights of the Deaf children to language (whether it is sign language or not). This cause will promote ASL and if you go, then you are promoting National Association of the Deaf and Georgia Association of the Deaf’s mission to promote, protect and preserve American Sign Language for our Deaf Children!

Question 9: Why is it so important?

Answer: It is very important that we, as a community, believe that acquisition and use of American Sign Language is an essential human right. It is also important that we believe that American Sign Language must be preserved, protected, and promoted, especially through literacy!

Question 10: Will this Benefit Gala be successful?

Answer: It will be successful with YOU involved! If you are not involved, then the gala will not be a success. We encourage you to become involved and support this cause! Think about American Sign Language and strong literacy skills for all deaf children in Georgia!

Chili’s Give Back Night
Chili’s is proud to support the communities in which we operate. The Give Back Night program is another way to be involved in the community and to support Georgia Association of the Deaf!

What is a Give Back Night?
A Chili’s Give Back Night is a fundraiser where Chili’s “gives back” to not-for-profit organizations. The fundraising event takes place at a local Chili’s restaurant (Chili’s in Toco Hills, 2133 Lavista Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30329) on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 6pm. The benefiting organization will promote the Give Back Night to community members. The organization will receive 10% of the sales (excluding tax and gratuity) from the organization’s guests when the event voucher is presented.
