Georgia Association of the Deaf Announces Deaf Children’s Literacy Benefit Gala

Atlanta, GA – December 5, 2011

Georgia Association of the Deaf, the Georgia’s oldest primer civil rights and advocacy organization of deaf and hard of hearing individuals established in 1910, is pleased to announce the upcoming Benefit Gala.

A cross-section of community leaders, educators, entertainers, and supporters from the greater Atlanta area and beyond will enjoy Deaf Children’s Literacy Benefit Gala on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the exclusive J.W. Marriott Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia.
“We are so excited to present our patrons with an exquisite evening, the likes of which have not graced the elegant Grand Ballroom of J.W. Marriott Buckhead” shared Gala Co-Chair, Christopher Patterson. “Georgia Association of the Deaf (GAD) is so fortunate to have the support of so many talented and selfless individuals who will help us create this magical experience for our Deaf Children.”

GAD will feature NeNe Leakes, a television personality from Real Housewives of Atlanta and Celebrity Apprentice, at the gala along with Howard Rosenblum, CEO of National Association of the Deaf who will make a special appearance as the gala’s keynote speaker.Evon Black, nationally acclaimed performer and a motivational speaker, will serve as the gala’s emcee who will bring magical moments.



Proceeds from this event will help make a difference for the 500+ Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in Georgia. Highlights of the organization’s projects include: promoting Deaf children’s literacy skills through American Sign Language acquisition, and other literacy projects through our expanding youth program designed to make literacy learning possible.

The Georgia Association of the Deaf (GAD) is the state’s premier civil rights and advocacy organization, of, by and for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the state of Georgia based in metropolitan Atlanta. GAD represents the estimated 1 million Georgians (approximately 14% to 16% of the total population in Georgia) with a hearing loss. Georgia also reported approximately 4 of every 1,000 children are either deaf or hard of hearing.
